When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

...Dublin

I'm a Swedish geocacher and I will be in Dublin over the weekend of 7-9 of September. Friday night through Sunday is completely packed with other activities, but I have about eight hours free on Friday and we all know what that means - geocaching. :D

Naturally I want to go for the obvious one, GC43 Europe's First, and I thought I'd throw in GC322 Kyle Cache 1 for good measure. They both seem to be fairly straight forward, but Kyle Cache 1 has a higher terrain rating. Are hiking boots recommended for this one? I'd prefer not to bring them, but if they are needed...

Oh, and I would also love some company. If anyone would like to go with me to these two geocaches (and possibly others if time allows) I would really enjoy it. It is always nice to meet new people and also more fun not to go alone. I would of course be willing to pay my share of fuel cost, etc. If I go alone I will have to rent a car.

My flight arrives at Dublin Airport at 10.20 am on Friday September 7, so as soon as I have picked up my bag I will be ready to go. If you want to go with me, just let me know and we'll sort out the practicalities.

I was at this cache last week, and parts of the path up to the cache are mucky and wet.. Given that the weather is pretty wet at the moment, the conditions are only going to stay the same or get worse - so I would recommend that you bring either trail shoes, or some sort of outdoor boots.

There are also lots of gorse bushes (Not sure you have these in Sweden too?) but don't wear shorts to the cache!! :-)

For Europe's First you won't need hiking boots as the cache is just off the pathway.
