When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

In the previous site, at the head of the 'Recent Posts' there was a 'Mark Forums Read' button.
There are some threads which I completely ignore (Sorry, I've grown out of word games!) and wish to mark read quickly.
Its not a biggie, but here is the code from the Board Index...

It's still there at the top of each forum.
Just above the 'Go to page' there's a 'Mark topics read'.
Click that and all done.

And at the bottom of the homepage there is a "Mark forums read" link too.

I was using the one on the homepage, but I cannot see the one on the individual forums.
I'll try a screenshot...

As you can see, no 'Mark all messages read'
Its not the end of the world, but I thought having it on the 'View new posts' screen was useful.

Ahh I see now. There's no "mark all messages read" just "mark topics read" a level up. I usually just read the stuff I want, then when I'm done "mark topics read".

Yup, thats what I do too.
'twas different on the old site.
Nobody else has an issue with it, so don't worry about it.
Thanks,
John

Done

Use as follows....
Copy the iframe URL only; the bit between "".
So for example, the iframe for Joe Bloggs would be:

Code: Select all

<iframe src="https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=joebloggs%40gmail.com&ctz=Europe/Dublin" style="border: 0" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
To use on the forum, do this:

Code: Select all

[calendar]https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=joebloggs%40gmail.com&ctz=Europe/Dublin"[/calendar]

This may not be a new suggestion, but..

Puzzles? A forum for people to be get a nudge to get going. Not for explicit direction or GZ co-ordinates, just somewhere for people to ask and get a start on something.

Is that the 'Geocaching Ireland' group ? I've had a lurk (or two ) on that group but haven't come seen anything. My suggestion for something on Puzzles to be included on this forum is as much to see if such formal co-operation would be frowned upon.

Suspect Eileen is talking about this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/geocachingpuzzlehelp/

They have rules about not posting before FTF, no overt spoilers etc.

That's the one - there's another one that just gives the answers - but no fun in that - this one helps people solve them themselves.

is there any forum for brain storming - general q+a
playing around with ideas that locals and visitors could enjoy

like grouping a set of caches to make a series like ( bridges walks parks climbs etc etc)
