March 13th 2017

When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Around on the 20th - can't commit 100% until we see the Dubs do and whether they might be inaction that evening!

Is this going ahead Eileen, do you think?

Hmmmm....the 20th is also the date for the Benbulben night walk for Sligo/Leitrim MRT. I was hoping to do that and don't think I'll be able to make both!
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Oh dear what a shame, looks like you'll have to change the date away from the 20th Eileen. **hint** :D

We're on 10 again... with Eileens one still to come in August! And I've just been contacted by cachers from Denmark (who have never organised one themselves) asking me to run a meet & greet in late July (25th actually) for them!

We'll all be sick of the sight of eachother at this rate...

Down to five now, with three of those due in the next fortnight. Sad times :(

All that said I'll personally make sure its never down to zero, if I possibly can. Swedish Breakfasts are easy to organise!

I can confidentially (ahem!!!) tell you that a certain antipodean cacher is preparing something that is going to draw people from the length and breath of the country - every Dublin cacher will be lining up to strike a certain long-standing blot on the landscape (seascape???) off their closest unfound list.

Yep. It is that cache.

Got it ;), thanks

I thought I might have a vested interest in this. One of mine matched your initial reference, but is currently disabled. I also have done the hard part of a similar, but more adventurous, multi but have drawn a blank, more than once, on the final stage .

Damn, was hoping it would be Carraig Da Bheola. That one has been blotting my calendar for 6 years!

Excellent. I'll be there for it when it happens, hopefully! Was thinking about doing precisely the same thing when I was mucking about near #37 yesterday.

Edit: I would suggest that our certain antipodean cacher does not plan this mystery adventure between the 21st and 29th September. I will be in the UK and it would pain me something shocking to miss this.

Good news... aside from 10-weekly Swedish Breakfasts, I'll probably do some in Belfast next year too. And I have Winter Morning Insanity which I have planned out (but not written or published yet). I had a great idea for next years Summer Morning Insanity too.... I'll probably do one on Irelands Eye as well and I thought up two great ones this evening which I'll do too.

So there will be no shortage of events in 2014, thats for sure ;)

Anyone for a 11-12-13 Event Cache? It's a Wednesday but that can't be helped!

Like the change of start time for the Winter Morning Insanity Event meaning we'll get a little bit of sleep before heading out in the cold!
