When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Call of Duty: Modern Geocaching (Event)

Post by gilliancclarke » Thu Jul 22, 2010 7:03 pm

Hi all

I'm arranging an airsoft event at Predator Combat in Castlewellan with Monto on 4/9/10. (See event listing http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_de ... 2a8a3d9ef9)

This event is open to everyone - you do NOT have to attend the Airsoft activity to log the event - just turn up at 13:00 and sign the logbook and say hello - of course it would be great craic if you could stay so I can shoot you....

What is Airsoft?
Well it is a simulated COMBAT activity. Using replica life size weapons called AIRSOFT GUNS (AEG'S) they shoot 6mm plastic pellets (a bit like paintball without the paint!). 2 teams play compete in various scenarios to complete objectives. You shoot each other alot and have lots of fun doing so.... Just think about those guys that have beaten you to those FTF's.....

Some details....
There is an age limit of 12yrs and over.
Dont worry about not being fit enough - most abilities are able to take part...
The cost will be £30 to £40 depending on the amount of ammo you use :)
There is a £10 deposit to guarantee you a place, pls text me or PM me to make arrangements (this will come off the £30)
The airsoft game will be starting at 13:30hrs and finishing at 16:30hrs

We will have a group booking to ourselves as long as a minimum of 14 people attend, please let me know ASAP if you are able to turn up.

Would love to see you all there! :)

i just looked at I the event page and saw how far away it is, I live in Cork so it would be a long journey up. I could have done it in September when I lived in Sligo! I wish I did. :(
Thanks for the offer though
