When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Hi all, I started caching in the last few months and am up to 69 caches now. I live in Rinsgend at the moment (about 40m from Bootles Grand Canal Dock's cache) and hav been working my way through Dublin's caches. My parents live in Carlow, so I've taken in a few caches around that area too.

On Sunday I placed my first cache. I was really chuffed to see someone grabbed it the same day it was published :)

Welcome to the forum 8)
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Hi, it's amazing how fast did you (and your friend) solve some hard puzzle caches, some experienced cachers spend few months on these, ans some are still unfounded except your finds.

Hehehe, the Aztec Temple of the Sun was a tricky one alright. Tolmaion came into the lab chuffed because he had an FTF on the cache. I was determined to solve it too as I couldn't have him constantly slagging me about it. I'm happy to say I did it with absolutely no hints :)

The other ones we've puzzled out over the course of a few days together. We're both PhD students so we can while away a few hours without any boss annoying us about work.

Your Geometricache is still giving us a bit of trouble though. We've both spent some at the third stage with no luck so far. When tolmaion is back from holidays we're organizing a search party. There's a guy that mailed me about teaming up that I have to call too.
