When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

GSAK Forum Post - How FindStatGen Deals With NI

Post by dino » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:22 pm

The main author of this nifty macro is looking for feedback on how NI is handled for the maps.

Although he is looking for UK feedback I think this is more relevant to Ireland cachers and would ask that you give him some feedback if you use the macro and/or the maps.

The thread is here: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=16021&hl=

I deleted my original reaction as it wasn't constructive and have made a more "considered" reply.

I've also been talking via PM to the OP and it seems to be more of a lack of knowledge than anything else. I think I'll just ignore the usual uninformed "mainland" replies ;)

Looks like he's put already together a map similar to the INATN one already - looks good.

Yeah, that map is working for me with manually entered counties - I guess it's just a matter of time before the automatic selection works so I'll hold off on changing them all for a while. 8)

Happy days! It's about time the Northern Ireland counties were recognised too! I'm not that fussed about the issues surrounding the NI\ROI argument in GC, a cache is a cache no matter where it is hidden! It'd be nice to see what I've done in which counties, entering it all manually sounds like too much hard work tho!

This may sound like silly question, but where arre my macros stored? I presumed in Program Files/ gsak/ Macros, but I can't find a folder called Macros anywhere?

You'd think that's where they should be but they're not! I can tell you when I get back to my own pc later tonight tho! What OS are you running?

Where you have described they ought to be is where I have them.
I am also using Windows XP.
I manually created that folder since I don't like application data living in My Documents which is where I think wildfowler is going to tell you he has his ... maybe (I think) :S

You can control where you put them.
It's up to you.
It's pretty flexible stuff ;)

Try C:gsak/macros

I think that's where they used to be when I ran XP?

It's even more complicated in Win7!

I think there is an option to get GSAK to check it for you though under Tools. It's called something like GSAK folder?

GSAK Map File updated.

Announcement: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=16021&st=0&#

Map Files: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=8241&st=80&#

This is what mine now looks like:

I've queried the 33 counties but I have a feeling it's NI still listed as a county that is the issue.

Anyone else seeing coastal caches not picking up county information? Polygon data might be a bit out. There's a few more inland that won't update and three that insist they are in Strathclyde...... :D Apart form that it's workign well! 8)

Waterford is sorted but there are a lot in that SE area that aren't :)
