When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

10 Years! icon in GSAK

Post by CluelessTwo » Mon May 24, 2010 7:16 pm

Ive been baffled as to how to get the 10 years events icons showing in my stats.

I first noticed that when the gpx file is loaded into gsak, that there isnt a preloaded icon in the program to enable it to have its own icon and its shown as "other"

One solution I found was to change it to an event cache and then it counted it as an event, but I was annoyed at how my stats were different from my online page due to the fact that GC.com sees them as a seperate cache type. And even showed it as an APE cache.

After a bit of digging on the gsak forum I found the solution until GS can resolve the icon issue.

What you need to do is go into your GSAK, go into the 10Years event, and change the cache type from Event to Mega-Event...Then update your profile like normal using FindStatGen.

(Keep in mind this will only work if you have NEVER attended a Mega-Event cache before...if you have, you'll need to select something other than mega event)

Next, go to your online profile, and click EDIT PROFILE..You will need to update some of the HTML code.

1) Search for "Mega Event" ... Change the text to "10 Years! Event"
2) To the left of this text, will be a link within the <a href> html coding. Change the link to the following. Don't forget to change YOUR USERNAME HERE to your actual username on GC.com

CODE
../seek/nearest.aspx?tx=3ea6533d-bb52-42fe-b2d2-79a3424d4728&ul=YOUR USERNAME HERE

3) Search for all instances of "453.gif". Change to "3653.gif"
- I had 2 instances of the mega event icon I had to change (finds by type, most cache types in 1 day, elevation, and milestone), you may have more or less depending on your situation.
4) Save your profile.

Until they update this in the FindStats macro, you will have to do this sequence every time you update your profile, since it will override your entire profile each time you update.
