When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

This is off the top of my head and assuming that you have the maps installed on Mapsource.
  • Plug in the GPS
  • Open Mapsource and select the mapset in the drop-down menu on the main menu (if you have more than one mapset installed)
  • Select the "Map Selection Tool" - it looks like a little polygon
  • Click on the map screen and this selects the maps you click and highlights them in a new colour. If you make a mistake then click again and it will deselect them.
  • When you are finished select transfer from the main menu and send to GPS. Let it find the GPS and then just clisk send/transfer/ok/something similar.
It may not be exactly like that as I haven't used Mapsource to send maps for quite a while now but it's similar.

Bear in mind that every time you send maps to the GPS it may overwrite any you have previously sent. The only persistent stored maps are the basemaps that came pre-installed on my GPSs but the Oregon may be different?
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Excellent, that worked a treat
Thanks, I didn't know about the map selection bit.

Living up to the name again.

Now all is needed is to test it out.

ha, I had seen that there was another response to this. And expecting the latest post to be addressed at me I read it as such.

I was horrified to think that you had thought that it was ME that shaved Niall.

Funny how you read things from a different perspective.

I can categorically state that there was nothing going on between Niall, me and a razor.
