When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Alternative to word game V1, V2...

Post by hairytoeman » Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:15 am

How about a game based on one of the word games. Instead of taking the last letter of a word to start the next word, take the last letter a cache name to start the next cache name. It must have been a cache you have found, and where possible write what makes it special to you. Stick the GC codes in afterwards for people to browse if so interested.

An example could be:
Trilateration (GC12G11)
Nobody nose (GCVH6C)
End of the Line (GC1BYZC)

This may be rubbish, but lets see how it goes...

The 7 Sevens (GC15M20)
A great series to get the heart pumping, and it was in my old playground. Good walks and fond memories.

Scrabo's South Quarry GC1XCZ5 by wildfowler
Lovely walk ( and not too strenuous for my aged legs! ), great views, super hide, and a big box full of excellent trade items.

Nice idea for a thread!

Your Place or Mine - GCKYB4 by Buddha Belly - Cache #319

Found this on 07/06/06 - Part of a great day's walk out on Ben Bulben with Kili or Bust. A scorcher of a day, and the only fly in the ointment was that "Soul Man" cache was missing from the series done that day!

Oh....... and the fact that the cache name starts with "Y" makes it memorable too!!

Echo of Enchantment (GC1NRPH)

Lovely little mystery cache in a strange little wood. The cache is in two stages. Found this during the Bally Cache Rally along with Zoe & Daddy.

Great stuff, but based on the rules of the game your entry should start with the letter "a", it being the last letter of the word Eureeka!

Ahh how silly. I looked at the word "cache" and went with that.

In that case Ill go with RosMcC's Akwaaba GC11ROF.

A reall great cache in the An Creggan centre between Omagh and Cookstown. We made the walk considerably longer by doubling back on ourselves, in case the trail didnt go full circle (even though we had read in the description that it did) We had our 7 year old neice with us for her 1st geocaching adventure.

...A again...

Looks like "E" was the correct letter to start with! Not to worry, just a point of clarification!

if we took the word cache from every listing we would alway be starting with the letter "E" and it would defeat the game

Hmmm........... not sure what listing you're using, but the vast majority of caches listed in my all-Ireland PQ's do not include the word "cache" in the title!

Hello America - GC89F7 by bloke1987. Find #371 on 24/08/06

Again, a special day's caching in beautiful weather and great scenery!

Albert Bridge GC1Y8EC by MournesRambler

A nice little cache in an unbelievably public location. Extreme stealth required so not to attract unwanted attention! Great little micro however!

End of the rainbow GCPBQT by Seacon. At Portbradden, a beautiful little place, one we'd never have visited if the cache hadn't been there, though we had often looked at it from a distance and wondered how you got down to it! Great walk to the cache along the shoreline, we loved it even though it poured with rain the whole time we were there!

Within an Inch GC16AGQ by quickbrownfox

The first multi cache I ever did, in a great setting, completed on a lovely summer's evening with my girlfriend, Ash. Highly recommended!

Herbert's Drey - GCR6AQ by Kili or Bust

An early multi with a sting in the tail! A satisfying find, as others had missed it and an FTF!

Not too many cache names that begin with the letter Y - at least not caches that I've found. But here's a nice one - "You don't bring me flowers" GC1Y3TR by Hairytoeman. A nice easy walk to a series of caches beside the sea, all with great views, and we did them on a brilliantly sunny day.

Stormy Woods by Brakkyboggers (GC1A9WJ) Only saw Stormont on telly before my caching visits there. By the way Jennifer seems to have fallen off the map???

Swan Lake (GC1CKFG) by brackyboggers who did at least 16 caches in October.
I think it was the same day we did that cache that we met them for the first time at Derryscollop Grove (GC1XBTH) by bawman.
They mentioned something about being in the process of moving house?!
Great wee lake ... muggles walking their dog throwing a stick in the lake!
Funny to watch.

Escort me to the Fiesta, GC810E, by DJH. We took ourselve off to Counties Kerry and Cork in August for a spot of caching, and had a super week in the most beautiful scenery - this was one of the caches we did in Co. Cork. And, by the way, Jennifer has just moved house Sean, and at the moment geocaching is fairly far down her list of priorities. Doesn't help that they still haven't got their broadband installed!
