When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Any eBay Sellers Here?

Post by dino » Sun Oct 18, 2009 8:26 pm

Anyone here been able to sell anything on eBay? Having real problems getting a seller account set up and getting it validated
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

You're in the North though aren't you?

The problem seems to be that I'm in RoI and they can't deal with the Irish phone numbers to send you a validation PIN ](*,)

Think I need to call in a favour from a friend in the North to take the phone call for me and then change my number back again :-$

are you using the eaby.ie or ebay.co.uk site ??

you should set it up using the .ie site then after 30days you can change the postal adress and region to UK or not

I'm set up on ebay.ie but I'm sure the security steps are very different from when I joined 7 years ago. Don't remember ever having to recieve a PIN to start selling. Did you try using different versions of the number, 35386, +35386 or 086?

You can't sell now without being a validated seller. First time you sell you need a landline to receive the PIN. Co.uk won't take Irish numbers and for some reason the ie site defaults to co.uk for validation!

EBay forum suggests using a friend in UK to get PIN and then change the number back again.

very strange that it should do that - I am an eBay instructor, and have never had any issue creating seller accounts :?

I assume you have a buyer account, so check your account - addresses profile to make sure that your primary & registration address is your ROI address.

i am trying to create a new registration here to see what it comes up with

Good call Malcolm....that was the issue. I had my Uncle's address in as the primary and no phone numbers. I changed the primary to home and put in my home number and all is now well with the world 8)

Are you on .co.uk at all? I couldn't work out how to get my listing on worldwide sites and have ended up with it just on .co.uk but have a feeling it won't sell there :?
