When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Who did I meet?

On Saturday June 20th I bumped into a couple of cachers who had just left Glenarm Bridges on the Antrim Coast Road. They were female, about late twenties and travelling in a dark coloured sports car. One said she had an ID something like Shadow Walker and came from Ballyclare. The other had signed the log after her but I couldn't make out the name. I've kept an eye on the cache page hoping to add them to the cachers we've met list on our profile but have come to the conclusion that they don't log online. Out of curiosity has anyone any idea who they are?

Hello MB Face!!

Yes I know who the cachers are! One of the 'girls' was my sister *storyteller* and her friend (my sis is shockingly slow at updating her logs!!!)!

My sister came home and told me about some lovely cachers she had just met from England, I thought you may have been 'the smileys' who I keep in touch with, as they are visiting Ireland at the same time you met her - I also reconised your caching name from all the lake district caches we've done!!!!

What a small world!!!!!

Hi Gillian

Thanks for that, mystery solved poste haste (as the Smileys might say)! Definitely a small world as I recognise your name from Lake District logs. I look forward to eventually :D seeing your sister's log and hope she enjoys her forthcoming visit over here.

I'll pass it on that you were asking :) She will be genuinely thrilled that you thought she was in her late twenties LOL!!!! I will be heading over to the lakes with her shortly so I'll keep an eye out for your logs!!!!

Hope you had a nice holiday!
