When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Re: PQ's

OK.
I selected 5 caches Ive already found from my database, marked them as "unfound" and copied them to a new database. I ran the export macro and they were still "found on the Oregon.

I then tried it as a gpx export and got the same result.

This is a difficult one.

PQ's

We are letting our friends borrow our Oregon 400t for an afternoon as the demonstrate geocaching to a youth group. They normally just use the iPhone app and are not premium members. I want to run a pq of the area (Bangor) he will be using, but as we have found a lot of the ones there already they on...

Re: Where's the map gone?

There are two maps on each page. The top one just opens a picture, If you scroll down to the other one it opens the geocaching maps page in a new tab.

10 Years! icon in GSAK

Ive been baffled as to how to get the 10 years events icons showing in my stats. I first noticed that when the gpx file is loaded into gsak, that there isnt a preloaded icon in the program to enable it to have its own icon and its shown as "other" One solution I found was to change it to an event ca...

Re: Problem with "How To - Get Every Cache In Ireland using PQs"

I tried your PQs John and they seemed to work ok. I increased one of them to 1000 caches, just so that they are all set at the same level. I set them up, downloaded them and uploaded them all at once into a brand new database. It produced a full database of 3044 waypoints with 1286 child waypoints. ...

Re: Covering the Entire Island

Since we now have the 1000 limit, I was thinking that we would be able to reduce our PQs to 3 instead of increase to 7.

Re: Geocaching on a Mobile Phone???

If you have Windows Mobile I suggest an app called GCzII its developed to rival the iPhone app by a geocacher. It has lots more functions than the Iphone app and is superb. Groundspeak dont approve of the app because it apparantly breaks their TOUs, but its free , and thats what I think their proble...

Premium membership is very cheap in comparison to the features you can access, well worth it.

Re: Problem with "How To - Get Every Cache In Ireland using PQs"

Im finding that Im now taking the PQs from the site now and not even opening my email. Problem now is that I have so many unopened pq emails. Must look and see if the email is necessary for the pq if I can download them all from the site anyway.

Brilliant results to all you people.

I heard that CluelessTwo also hit 400 at Marble Arch caves on route to the Sligo event. Not that we would blow our own trumpets or anything.

Re: Live Geocaching - Mobile app

I used this App but found the UI unusable and tiny. I have resorted to GCzII which in my opinion is far superiort than any mobile app Ive seen.

Dont have the link just now but if you google GCzII or Nicque freeware you will find it.

Re: 10 Year Events! - Qualification Criteria

Is it just me, or have the event cache icons disappeared off the geocaching map? I noticed the site went down for maintenance last night. I assume that was to get ready for ther influx of logging which will take place this weekend, and also to include the icons.
