When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Re: re: Car Travel-bug Query

Only today I met Dino-irl and over a cup of coffee I mentioned to him that I was thinking of getting one for my motorhome and he outlined the workings of it. Parkmoys comments are making me reconsider. During a recent caching trip to Kerry I drove into a caravan site to look around and I spotted one...

Re: The Reeks Walk

Is anyone camping in Fossa C&C Park on Friday night(9th). Kili has kindly agreed to lift me but if there is anyone camping there who could give me a lift to the start it would save him the hassle. I am in a motorhome and don't fancy battling with the jaunting cars!

Well done. Hopefully Joan won't spoil you for too long or you might get to enjoy it. When do you get home? Lots of new caches up here in the North.

A big Well Done Niall. I know your role as reviewer resricts your caching somewhat so it can't be easy.

Re: Over Compressed

Does the silence on this topic suggest that no one knows(which is unlikely) or that the problem is that great that no knows how to tell me :!: :!: :!: Or maybe with my track record no one wants to get involved. Probably the latter

Over Compressed

When I ran a Bit Defender virus check it told me that I had "12 over compressed items". It stated that this did not present a threat at present. What does this mean? Should I do anything to resolve the issue and how. Remember keep it simple!

Re: 10 Years! Sligo, Ireland: "Mountains to Sea"

Two cars and a caravan broken into and a lot of stuff taken. This was whilst the beach clean (CITO) was taking place. Just makes me wary with so many travelling criminals. Just back from walking in Wicklow at the weekend and the same prob there. Travelling speculative parasites!

Re: 10 Years! Sligo, Ireland: "Mountains to Sea"

Will there be any security at the Dunmoran Car Park during the walk? Sorry to mention it but I am mindful of what happened at the event at Donabate last year.
