When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Re: Phone upgrade

Niall has the Storm 9500. Whilst I mention the bb phones I have been thinking of moving towards the touch screen. I have got used to it with a samsung and don't fancy 'going back' to the keyboard. Having said that I figure the BB board is good. Have been looking at the Desire but out of stock at pre...

Re: unactivated travel bug

It had a laminated sheet along with it with the traking no, owners name, mission etc Thats a plus. Most TB's dont state there purpose/mission and so when you get home you find it difficult to do what is required. I even lifted one from a cache and when I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at it m...

Re: Whats your favorite type of cache

I agree with Parkmoy and would add not stuck in a hedge along a road just for the sake of sticking it in a hedge along a road. Also nanos stuck on a sign post outside someones house for no rhyme or reason other than it is near the owners house. Just keep in mind the generally high standard of cachin...

I Phone prob

Thankfully this is not my problem! My sons girlfriend has gone to the Isle of Man. Here is the problem in her words: "I have an Iphone 3G which was bought through an O2 contract. Since then I have moved to the Isle of Man and can no longer use O2 so have got O2 to unlock it. This should allow me to ...

Re: More printer trouble

Yea I have started post punching but I am just curious as to why it doesn't print pre punched. Also I have a pile of pre-punched paper.

More printer trouble

Having posted a question re printer cartridges and got things sorted (I hope) here is another one. I have good quality paper on which I type minutes. When I pre-punched the paper for a for hole ring binder and try to type, the paper jams. If I print the same matter on unpunched paper it works ok. No...

Just replaced a two black ink cartridges in my Epson Stylus Office BX310FN printer. Message coming up to tell me that it does not recognise the cartridge and to replace with genuine. It is the genuine article. How do I get it recognised?

Re: 2014 Ireland Mega

I have never attended a mega but tonight I attended an event in Stirling Scotland called Mega Embers. It was the monthly get together of the cachers from the area and some had been very heavily involved in the two year prep for the event. Some interesting points which I shall share (probably old hat...

Well done you guys! Keep in touch for the next one. I am in bonny Scotland at present and will be attending an event "Mega Embers". Hope I don't hear any tales about the Irish contingent in Perth. Will be listening.
