When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

And if there isn't one OF these AT Conlig Lead Mines, there bloody well ought TO be! Anyone know how TO GET coffee out OF the keyboard AND off the screen   If I wasn't hooked before then I definitely am now! The thought of meeting this delightful cacher will keep me going on those cold we...

You need to go to the exact location of the photo on the web, copy the address from the menu bar (click on the address, right click on your mouse, and select copy) and then past that in between the [ img] and [ /img ] tags on the post screen.

I had noticed these on the GC.com website but hadn't really looked INTO them. Following this post I got curious AND went exploring through them. FROM the point OF VIEW OF someone living IN an area WITH a low density OF caches I think these ARE a great idea. Each cache will bring out the imagination ...

The REAL question though IS were you disappointed AT finding it AND NOT being able TO GO looking FOR a new one?

Re: Cache Locations

Pay NO attention. He was joking.... I think. (It's not always easy to tell.) I always find it best TO err ON the side OF caution WHEN frequenting somewhere new AND especially WHEN USING text AS a medium OF communication. Sometimes emoticons don't do the right job :) Donegal could do WITH MORE cache...

:x OK THAT'S IT :x
I tried TO be nice :? But you've done it now :x
Apologies if I've offended. It wasn't my intention. Isn't text a great medium for making friends :)

Anyway it was wildlifewriter that dragged you INTO it

Re: Cache Locations

The one AT Glenveigh was quite enough exertion FOR me, thanks very much. That one looks good but apart FROM the one AT Loch Salt the rest seem pretty easily accessed FROM the car. They look good but don't seem to have much of a challenge in actually getting to the cache site. If your FIRST cache in...

Cache Locations

I've been scouring the GC.com cache listings FOR Donegal AND environs AND I've noticed that very few of the caches involve much exertion. Is there a good reason for this apart from those placing the caches being lazy gits 8-[ The reason I'm asking is that I've had a couple OF ideas FOR cache locatio...

Spotted that but I had already typed out the text in my blog before going to the cache log so all I had to do was copy and paste. Thanks for the tip anyway 8)

About placing your first cache... not to wee on the bonfire, but I (and I'm sure the old hands will agree) that it's best to wait until you've done AT least 10 OR so caches. It gives you an idea OF what makes a good cache, AND IS a pointer FOR contents, location etc. I'm conceited but not that bad ...

I had a great day today. Started WITH Avery's Castle which isn't far FROM home. Once I got there I had a fair idea WHERE TO look AND eventually FOUND the cache. Glad wildlifewriter had put the pencil stub there AS I had NO pen WITH me #-o Than moved ON TO Stone Circles which IS a fab location. It wa...

I like Paul's idea ON renaming the new cache SECTION. This would mean everything IN that forum will be new caches, cache help, cache tips etc.
Agreed
It also means i won't have to add another forum, making the index page look so "full".
Cool 8)

Isn't that what General Chat would be if we had a specific section for cache discussion only or do you mean completely off-topic and not even related to GeoCaching.

Cache Forum

Just posted into the General Chat Forum/Topic Area about existing caches and was wondering if it would be worthwhile having a separate area just for cache queries/discussions. I know we have a New Cache one already. Anybody else think this would be worthwhile? Getting cheeky seeing I'm only a newbie...

Cache Virgin

Tomorrow I'm off WORK AND something I've scheduled has been unexpectedly postponed so I'm free TO do my very FIRST caches WITH my brand new etrex :)

I've picked the following three to start with. Anybody got any tips/warnings before I head off into the great wild yonder?

Just thought I'd let you ALL know my Garmin eTrex arrived IN the post today FROM ebay(well it arrived Friday but I was AT WORK so I picked it up FROM the PO today). I'll be playing with it a bit over the next few days and hopefully I'll do my FIRST cache IN the NEXT week OR so. I may just start WITH...

Wow...loads of replies. This looks like a busy forum. I've been looking at ebay and last night there was a yellow etrex on there for £36 plus delivery and living so close to the border a mailing address is no problem. I'd pretty much made up my mind that a basic was the best way TO GO FOR now AS ...

Hello and a Newbie Question Already

Hi all! Saw the video diary on Countryfile yesterday morning and the idea of GeoCaching has really intrigued me. I've been looking through GeoCaching.com AND through the dedicated Irish site AND it hasn't put me off yet  FIRST question now AS a newbie IS what IS the best GPS unit TO GET AS a r...
