When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Re: Every Cache in Ireland with 1000 cache PQ's

Major update Finally got some time to look at this again and tighten up the dates a bit .(There may be a little wiggle room with the dated but once I get the PQ returning over 990 caches I'm happy enough) This is for every cache in Ireland whether you have found it or not - if you exclude your find...

Re: Youghal: Good geocaching fun or Overkill? whatya think?

I think Youghal has gone a bit OTT now, that said I'm going to hit the place like a man possessed at the upcoming event! but by doing that Chris do you send a signal to the cache owner that what they are doing is OK/ good/ alright and they should put out more of the same because they are OK / good/...

Re: Youghal: Good geocaching fun or Overkill? whatya think?

while out caching last year - it hit me ( not the cache or the tree  ) but I was standing there thinking "What the F*** am I doing here ? There's no view , no history and nothing of interest here so why in the name of God am I here ?" I had no answer to it so I've cut right back . I point blank...

my opinion - If you were not actually there and signed the book you didn't attend .End of . Any thing else is a false log and should be deleted.

Re: 2013 New Years Resolution

Alan not being local - and knowing that the cache is archived so won't be able to find it - how far away is the old Hell fire club cache from this event venue?

Re: When is a cache listing too long?

Had this problem on my Billy Churchyard cache . The problem was brought to my notice by Medic and after a quick change round - putting the info to find the cache at the start instead of after the "history lesson" it seems to work .

Re: Websites

other sites are available but if you are using them to find caches in Ireland I'd say you will be pretty dissapointed . Most of the other sites have very few caches listed in Ireland and they are usually copies of ones found on geocachingdotcom . For Ireland geocachingdotcom is where its at .

Re: help with pocket queries to cover northern ireland...

OK it looks like you need 3 one thousand cache PQ's to cover Northern Ireland . This will also bring in caches from Southern Ireland and Scotland as it is a radius based search but it should bring in all caches that are available in Northern Ireland .For all 3 PQ's keep the following information the...

Re: help with pocket queries to cover northern ireland...

At a rough guess you would need a center point around N 54. 33,549 W 006. 46,518. A radius of 60 miles should pick up all of Northern Ireland but it will include parts of Southern Ireland as well. You will need to play with the dates to get your PQ's right - start with 1 Jan 2000 and work up to you ...
