When I established the forums in 2005 it was to offer a more richer web experience and greater functionality than the platform where we started this social adventure in 2003, Yahoo Groups. The forums were once a busy hive of activity and provided locals and visitors with a wealth of information just like the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook today.

It was a time where we didn't have the many social media platforms we have today, and it was a different time in terms of mobility and technology. There was no instant access to information, no Google Maps and a very limited base map on your GPSr. Mobile connectivity for me was a 9600bps Infrared connection from a Nokia to a laptop and in later times to a PDA using WAP.

As we moved into the social media era so did our forums users. Geocaching Ireland moved there too, and we have a thriving community on the Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group on Facebook. As a result, forum activity isn't what it used to be and I have taken the decision to disable new registrations to the forums and to make the forums read only so any information there can still be accessed.

The discussion hasn't ended, it has just moved. Join us on the Facebook Geocaching Ireland Discussion Group .

Ah - I found it. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCREPD_blue-away

Has anybody on here done this? Seems like a 5hr walk from the logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cache Q - Bluestack Mts. WW2 Crash Site, Co. Donegal

Hi all, I'm wondering if you could help me. In WW2 an RAF Sunderland crashed in the Bluestack Mountains in Co. Donegal after being diverted towards Castle Archdale RAF base outside Enniskillen. I seem to faintly recall that there was a geocache placed there some time ago, the reason I ask is that fr...

Re: Dodgy car adventures

Klaus had a great story about managing to get his car lodged in a ditch while out caching, walking to a nearby farm to ask for a tow from the farmer, meeting the farmer's wife who tells him that the farmer is away but sure he can take the tractor and pull the car out! She shows Klaus, a complete st...

Re: looking for "try-out" west ireland area

I'm very near Galway and work in the city. Haven't geocached in quite some time but if you'd like a beginners lesson I'd be happy to help.

I would need to dig out my GPS and see what caches are around the place these days. :)

I had a 1.5 dCi Megane as a workhorse last year, and even when abused would yield 60+mpg.

Wonderful responsive chassis too, reasonably direct steering and near-unloseable handling on the original Michelins.

Liked it so much I bought an RS Clio 172 afterwards. :D

All going well I think I'd be able to make Cuilcagh, I might bring a non-geocaching friend along for the hillwalk if that's ok.

If I'm able to go, it'll just be the mountain for me, nothing else needed. Don't quite get that one Klaus? Sorry, what I mean is that I'd be coming up just for Cuilcagh then travelling back the same day and won't need a hotel or dinner reservation if you're looking for numbers to commit/confirm def...

Just wanted to see if I was anyway close, and I suspected Leinster would be my undoing. I have to check back through archived stuff to see if I can find caches from the missing counties that I found. Not sure if you ever upgraded to PM status but if you did you can run a MyFinds PQ that will return...

B&B In Ballycastle

Remember the B&B we stayed at in Ballycastle the time of the Rathlin Island event? Does anyone remember what it was called, or have contact details for the lady of the house? I was thinking of going for an extended break and felt like going back there for a day & night.

Until then if anyone wants the coin speak up and take it - I won't be offended and won't fall out with anyone who wants it.
Medic is taking it I'm afraid... maybe dino will do another coin LOL

Fraid not, but I'll probably go back there sometime soon so I might do those then.

I'll see if I can get a .gpx file next time too. I've got some pictures to upload as well.

Found A Lovely Walk In Connemara

Chances are some people have already been but I set out for a long walk this morning and quite by accident came across a 'new' section of the Western Way. It runs off the existing one at the Folore River where it enters Lough Corrib and continues along bog bridges/boardwalks for 4km to the R339 Maam...
