Post GC planning to increase PQ limit from 500 to 1000 on May 2
Looks like GC will increase PQ limit from 500 to 1000 on May 2, 2010. Yay!

"we'll be focusing on increasing the capabilities over this next weekend to ensure this never, ever happens again. By increasing this capacity we'll also be prepared to offer Pocket Queries with 1,000 results instead of 500. This will happen by the anniversary of geocaching (May 2, 2010). As those veterans to geocaching know, I'm not usually one to offer dates, but this one is solid."

That's excellent news! No need to run 6 PQs to get all the caches in Ireland any more!

great news, only problems might be gpsr's ability to hold the info

No problem if you've got the room!

But sure you can't find them all in a day no matter how hard you try!

The Colorado supports up to a maximum of 2000 geocaches (in addition to the 1000 waypoint limit). The Colorado also supports a maximum of 200 gpx files. If you exceed either the 2000 geocache limit or the 200 file limit the Colorado will warn you.

The Oregon seems to hold 5000 geocaches, so hopefully it will be a while before mine fills up!

If I use waypoints instead of caches then I think the 76CSx holds '000s

You sure? I think they can hold 2000 waypoints, but 5000 caches?
Mine's a 550

My Dakota 20 holds 2000 too.

More than enough for me... for the time being anyway!

The 400t can take 1,000 waypoints and 2,000 caches. The 550t can take 2,000 waypoints and 5,000 caches.

The 550 has issues (as I'm sure other devices do too) with file sizes in and around 8-12MB ... the caches just vanish from the map and take an absolute age to return - sometimes they just don't.
Has anyone else come across this behaviour?!

This happened to me when I exported the AllIreland.gpx file out of GSAK.

Never had a problem with my 550t! Works perfectly every time!

Must be something you're doing!

What are you using to export it? Are you running a macro to do it?

The Oregon Wiki mentions that it does have a gpx file size limit:

"If the total size of all gpx files exceeds 8MB-10MB the Oregon may fail to display some or all of the geocaches that these files contain. The exact limit has not been characterized yet"

It says the same thing about the Colorado on wiki but says you are hard pushed to get a file that big if you keep the logs to the last 5. I think if you just transfer them separately instead of as a whole Ireland gpx you're trouble will be over...for now

I'm exporting the whole db - yeah a macro ... set it up ages ago and attached it to a button.
Can't remember exactly what I did since I don't use it anymore and just stick to PQs of the area I'm heading to ... much more reliable.
I lost the faith with the macro and GSAK.

That's probably what I've got to do there.

Frezeluberz, I went through this problem at the weekend.
Everything working fine, and at the event, all my GCs disappeared off my Colorado 300.
I spent ages trying to figure it out but in essence I removed all GPX files from GPS and reinstalled.
I got a lot of 'loading maps', but I think leaving this message for a few minutes rather than powering off immediately was key.

Yep ... my dad has persisted with GSAK exports and told me the same thing.
I didn't realise that I was being impatient.
His Oregon crashed the other day, I think the gpx file became corrupted cause when he switched it back on again all the caches were gone and no matter how many times he restarted the device or how much time he waited he didn't get them back again.
I still think I'll stick to PQs until I sit down and work out the filtering system in GSAK.
Thanks for the tip though ... much appreciated :)
